Adding Insult To Injury

The death of Al-Zarqawi is a wonderful victory here in Iraq, as U.S. forces were finally able to get decent intelligence, moved on that intelligence, and finally eliminated a cowardly murderer that we had been searching for since the beginning of the war. Al-Zarqawi has waged a murderous war against innocent Iraqi’s using car bombs and suicide bombers. He is believed to have beheaded Nicholas Berg, a 26-year-old businessman from the United States. Certainly this will be welcome news to Berg’s family, correct? Uh, no, not according to Berg’s father.

"I think al-Zarqawi's death is a double tragedy," Michael Berg said after learning a U.S. airstrike had killed the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. "His death will incite a new wave of revenge. George Bush and al-Zarqawi are two men who believe in revenge." Berg said the blame for most deaths in Iraq should be placed on President Bush, who he said is "more of a terrorist than Zarqawi."

What a jackass. What a complete and total jackass. Let me begin by saying that, I have had a certain feeling of sympathy for the Berg family based on what happened. But Nicholas Berg was told not to go to Iraq on several occasions by both American civilian authorities and by military authorities, therefore the blame for Nicholas Berg’s death in Iraq falls on no one other than Nicholas Berg himself.

In light of these completely ignorant and self serving comments by Michael Berg, I have lost not only any sympathy I felt for their family, but any respect I ever had for them in dealing with this tragedy. How interesting is it that Michael Berg makes these comments while running for Delaware’s only House seat as a member of the Green Party, and is using his son’s death as a way to garner attention for his political platform.

"Zarqawi felt my son's breath on his hand as held the knife against his throat. Zarqawi had to look in his eyes when he did it," Berg said. "George Bush sits there glassy-eyed in his office with pieces of paper and condemns people to death. That to me is a real terrorist."

What?? Okay, so now Michael Berg has some sick sort of respect for Zarqawi, because he ‘had to look in’ his son’s eyes as he CUT OFF HIS FREAKING HEAD??? Is that the litmus test for acceptability when murdering someone? So it’s okay to saw off a person’s head with a knife, as long as you look into their eyes? Also, I can tell you from personal experience, American and coalition troops are working with Iraqi troops and the Iraqi people, we are not on any ‘terrorist’ campaign over here.

For Michael Berg to make a statement like that and call our commander and chief a terrorist is a condescending take on every person in the military, we are NOT terrorists by any stretch of the imagination, we are here to help the Iraqi people regain control of their country and set up a representative form of government. If Michael Berg were to come over here and actually tour any of the American bases, at least then he would be qualifed to make some sort of statement about what we are doing. But no, he has not been here, he is merely another mouthpiece for the radical left wing, spouting off anti war rhetoric from the 60’s in the hope of living out another Vietnam era, something that, thank God, is not going to happen.

Current Lyrical Ramblings

You just stood there screaming
Fearing no one was listening to you
They say the empty can rattles the most
The sound of your voice must soothe you
Hearing only what you want to hear
And knowing only what you've heard
You… you're smothered in tragedy
You're out to save the world

So you're telling a man who's son died how he should grieve? I suppose you'd have no problem with his grief if he expressed it in a manner compatible with your political views? I just love how the right seizes on dead Americans to support their politics but turns on their families if they're not happy at being exploited in this way. Yes, he's a pacifist. If there were more pacifists out there we'd have fewer bloody wars and violent deaths. Is that a bad thing? Will it still be unpatriotic to criticize the government when the democrats are in power? Try to be a little less tautological.

Loving America and loving freedom which includes the freedom to disagree with the government means that you don't call someone who doesn't vote the way you do unpatriotic. Looking at Bush's recent poll numbers (28% approval rating) it seems the vast majority of Americans are "unpatriotic" by your definition.

I just love how the leftist and their media attack dogs use these people to further their own beliefs and rabid desire to get back their power....and the hell with what's best for you or me or anyone else in this country. IMHO and I do have a right to an opinion, I for one have no respect for a person who would use the death of his son to jump-start a political career. Do you really think this is the only man who lost a son? I know a man who lost his son and his daughter is heading to Iraq. The media doesn't care what he thinks. I'd be willing to bet you never heard a thing that this man has said. I know a woman who lost her son in Iraq, the media doesn't care about her opinion either. Do you really think Cindy Sheehan is the only one who lost a son?
Pacificism is all fine and dandy but it won't buy you a second of freedom or peace unless you happen to be one of those little china monkey statues. See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil. Sounds like you just might be one of those happy little pacifists who would prefer turning a blind eye to the realities of evil as long as it doesn't come and knocking on your door. Oh...that's right, it did knock on your door, but that was New York and maybe you don't live there and well...that was then and this is now and EVERYONE knows that it was all a plot by the evil Bush family and the Saudi's. And did you know that we've been invaded by space aliens and they're using mind control on us all?
You cited the poll numbers. Get a clue? Have you ever read the questions in those polls? I have and the questions always remind me of the sort of questions that ask, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Poll questions that are loaded and presuppose a premise laid out by the creator of the poll. There's never room in those polls for why a person answers the question the way they do. I'm not too happy with Pres. Bush right now but it doesn't have a thing to do with this war, it has to do with his stance on immigration. Ask me how I feel about Murtha or Pelosi? Quite frankly, I'm not too fond of many of our fine politicians that are supposed to be representing "We the People" right now. But I trust Bush far more than I do some leftist kooks and conspiracy theorists who've been getting their funding from Communists and Marxists.
Thank God that we have young men and women who are willing to fight and die so that you and I and Cindy Sheehan and that man can stand up and speak our minds. Thank God we still live in a country that allows us that privilege. There are countries where that isn't allowed. Come to think of it, there are countries where women are stoned to death for wearing toe-nail polish...or men are dragged off and shot because they happen to be wearing shorts.

From a retired Marine, well said Oldgreyfroggy...

The media could care less what anyone says, as long as it fits in their political agenda for the day.

His comments have nothing to do with how he is grieving, it has everything to do with his political platform and his support of terrorism, his support of Al Quaida.

"What, he never said that??" Yes, I'm sorry, he did. There are certain situations that are perfect examples of being either with someone or against them, this is an ideal one. He plainly stated with his comments that it was better to have Zarqawi alive doing his thing than to have him finally taken out. Zarqawi wasn't even killing Americans, he was killing innocent Iraqis, by the hundreds. You see, your thoughts are part of the stupidity shown by pacifists, the ignorance that radiates from your type is amazing.

"We should all make love and not war, we should all be happy, let's all sing a song together" and while you are singing and smiling and smelling flowers, someone should punch you right in the face. Then when you say "WHY DID YOU DO THAT??" that person should tell you that you are a pacifist, therefore you shouldn't react.

Then when you agree "You know, you are right, I..." WHAM you get punched in the face again. And again, and again, until you realize that sometimes in this world you have to fight back, that the pacifist position OBVIOUSLY did NOT work for one William Jefferson Clinton, who allowed several heinous attacks to occur without responding in any sensible way whatsoever.

Is Bush some great president? I really don't know, it remains to be seen, the price of gas is insane, but hey, liberals should love that, given their freakishly ignorant environmental viewpoints. Bush's legacy will be based on what happens here in the middle east and so far from what I've seen it hasn't gone all that bad. That being said I do not listen to the media, I am HERE, I am IN THE MIDDLE EAST, I talk to the Iraqi people and I work with them on a day to day basis. There are 1000 good stories for every 1 bad story. This is by no means some miserable failure over here.

If you were to read my blog you would see that I support a person's right to have an opinion, this is the freedom I would give my life to defend. That being said, you are going to hear MY opinion when something comes up that I find fault in. This happens to be one of those situations. If I'm in uniform you could stand 2 inches from my face and berate me and call me baby killer and all you are going to get is a stoic expression, eyes front, mouth shut. I stand silently defending your right to express your opinions, however flatulatingly stupid your opinions may be.

But go ahead and bring up your opinions in the bar, at the market, at the buffet table, when I'm living as a civilian again, and you can damn well bet you are going to get an earfull. To get back to basics about the Berg family, their son did something freaking stupid and he got killed for it, Zarqawi would have been targeted had he killed Nicholas Berg or not, so Berg's father should just clam it instead of making idiotic politically charged statements.
