Handicapped By Overeating???

I've always been of the opinion that there are too many handicapped parking spots. Certainly my opinion might be different if I was handicapped myself, but even then, I don't think there would ever be a time in which I wouldn't find a handicapped spot to park in, especially a place like walmart, who seems to have more handicapped spots to park than normal spots.

Let me get back though to what I'm actually getting into here. Some time ago I was in a buffet style resteraunt, and two very large people were eating there. In my own opinion, it disgusts me when people make no effort to take care of themselves, but in all reality, so be it, that is their choice. I happened to leave about the same time they did, and low and behold, they have a handicapped placard in their car, and of course, are parked in the handicapped parking area.

I really don't believe that obesity is a valid reason for calling yourself 'handicapped'. Obesity is a 'condition' that is preventable, not a debilitating disease such as cancer, or diabetes, or a condition that naturally affects everyone's mobility at some point: old age.

Perhaps overweight people should consider losing weight, rather than abusing a particular status reserved for those who have actual problems that are not preventable.

Not really... I just don't believe obesity is a valid excuse for a handicap.

Who said that is their reason for having the handicap sticker? You have no idea what else could be going on with that person. That, is closed mindedness. You don't know anything about them yet, you automatically believe that the reason that have that sticker is strictly because they are overweight. I certainly hope you don't use this kind of judgement with everyone you come across.

Obesity alone is not a reason to get a handicap sticker. However, being obese can lead to other health problems. On the other hand, unfortunately, there are medical conditions which lead to being overweight. There are medical conditions whose treatments can lead to being overweight. Then there are those who love handicapped people because it means they can use their cars and get all the best spots. Which annoys me becuase if you can walk, you should. What I love is seeing those signs for mommies with little kids, cuz those people definitely ought to get some consideration. Along with the handicapped.
I had a point. Did I make it? :)
